I'm back from a 3 day weekend with my little family!  We went to Madison Wisconsin to see the Dalai Lama!!  It was exactly what I had planned and wanted it to be.  I'll try to post all about it with pictures soon!

Bits and Pieces

Here is Lily and her friend Chloe watching Chloe's sister Casey dancing at Shawnee Mission Theater in the Park.  After that we stayed for Beauty and the Beast.  It was the latest Lily has ever stayed up.  She didn't get to bed until 11:30pm!  We had so much fun!  Their mom Diane is the greatest!

Here is Lily's sweet friend Wesley (dressed as an astronaut and looking very Top Gun) blowing out his candles at his 5th birthday party.  His artist mom Laura made the adorable alien cupcakes.  Thanks for inviting us!

My husband and my daughter teach me how to find joy in each day.  Here my husband, the pancake artist, has created a buddha and a lotus.  Then he and Lily strike their best zen poses.  I love my life!

For the girls

I hesitate to post this, but I feel compelled.  (Plus it's a good way for me to avoid my to-do list.)

I seem to know so many women right now who have been substantially let down by the men in their lives. You know who you are.  He cheated on you.  Or he's not there for your children.  Or he works all the time and doesn't make time for you.  Or he won't commit.  Or he doesn't communicate with you.  Or he abandoned you. Or he had the audacity to die.  Or he's your father and he met another woman too soon after your mother died. Or maybe many of the above.

In a perfect world, the men in our lives are strong, yet a soft place to fall for us.  When they're not, we need to be part of the solution.  We can express compassion and empathy for them and for ourselves.  We can communicate more effectively with them.  We can go to marriage counseling.  We can practice The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.  We can choose how we react to their actions.  We have the power to create the life we want to live.

I'm here to tell you that I'm sorry these things happened to you and that I'm here for you.  That I will be a shoulder for you to cry on and a listening ear.  That I will be your cheerleader.  That you are not alone.

Local Adventure

Here are some pics from the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead adventure we had with our Ladybug friends the Williams family back on July 1st (sans the men from both families who were off doing the providing thing.)

And for those of you who are interested, I received an email today from the lovely Captain Jack Sparrow (aka Chip Houser) who was kind enough to include this hot photo:  (if you click on it you can see a larger version)

The Best Weekend Ever!!!

My family had the best weekend ever!!! It was Lily's 5th Birthday weekend, with her actual birthday being on Sunday the 29th.

Friday night, we went to see Wall.E, the new Disney movie.  It is SO heartwarming!  A loveable little robot shows us what it is to be human.  Run, don't walk, to go see this one!

IMG_3396
Saturday we took Lily to get her ears pierced!  She was such a trooper - she didn't cry and she said it didn't hurt!  What a big girl she is!  Here she is pointing to the evidence!

Saturday night we went to see the Kansas City Roller Warriors roller derby.  I have a story for you!

First, we followed a guy and a girl on a motorcycle into the parking lot.  We had to wait behind them while they paid for parking, and while we did I commented on how I liked her hair and how cute their coordinating bandanas were.  Basicly, we really looked at them.  After we got inside, for the first time ever we noticed a sign that said that the front row seats are reserved for season ticket holders.  Since we're season ticket holders, we sat down with Paul now covering up the sign.  A minute later, the couple from the motorcycle happened to sit down right next to me.  Somehow we got to chatting, and it turned out they were not season ticket holders, but I'm sure they didn't see the sign with Paul sitting in front of it.  I happened to mention that my daughter was having her 5th birthday party the next day, and that it was going to be a pirate theme.  The guy said that he was just at a pirate party for a 4 year old that morning, and that there was the best impersonator there of Captain Jack Sparrow (from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movie series.)  I said I had been looking for someone who did that for months but couldn't find anybody.  He gave me the guy's card that he still had on him from the party.  I joked that I wondered if he'd be free tomorrow and the motorcycle guy said he'd call him for me and find out!  He couldn't reach him so he also sent him a text message on my behalf.  So while we waited to see if he'd call back and watched the roller derby, I couldn't get over how familiar this guy's voice sounded, so I said, "I don't suppose you're on the radio, are you?"  He said, "Yes, I'm Johnny from The Rock."  I hardly ever listen to the radio, but even I know about the famous Johnny Dare from 98.9 The Rock in Kansas City.  I couldn't believe I recognized his voice as someone who hears him maybe once a year.  So I'm kind of flipping out by now because I'm sitting next to a local celebrity - and he's handsome by the way.  So here he is with Lily.

Oh, and I also - before I knew he was famous - asked him to save our seats so we could go get this picture:

This is my favorite derby girl, Snot Rocket.  I always knew she was really talented (seriously, you should see this girl skate), but tonight I also got to see that she's really pretty and nice too!  I've been wanting this shot for a while now, so it was cool that we got the chance.  She probably thinks I'm a stalker, poor thing.

Anyway, so after we left, we decided to use the restrooms before the long drive back home.  When we came out, we saw the girl that Johnny was with (who was gorgeous by the way and I told her so) and she said Johnny was looking for us because the pirate returned his call and he's available for our party!   Johnny then walked up all excited about the news.  I was so floored by the whole thing!  Sorry to ruin his reputation KC, but he's a really nice guy!!!

So we got into our car and called the pirate, whose real name is Chip Houser.  Paul talked to him and set it all up for 2:00 the next afternoon for Lily's party.  I was kind of nervous about whether or not it was really going to happen or not, because of course Lily was there for all of the this.

On Sunday, Lily got her presents, including this:

Then came the party!  We started out with some jumping on this:

IMG_3501
This is all at our house by the way.  Fun!  And that's my hot hubby in the pirate costume.

Then Captain Jack Sparrow came through for us (I couldn't believe it!) and I was completely star struck.  He was tall, dark, and handsome.  Maria - you would have passed out!  (She is in love with Johnny Depp.)  I am still being made fun of for apparently not being very subtle about my awe.  Fortunately my husband is extremely understanding!  I wasn't the only happy girl.  My friend Shelly said something along the lines of, "Tiffany, we need to have a scrapbooking party with a pirate theme so we can see him again!"  OK, without making you wait any longer, here he is:

IMG_3461
Did I mention that he acts and sounds JUST like Johnny Depp's character?  I can't believe how completely serendipitous it was that he fell into our laps the night before the party!!!  It was just meant to be.

Paul set up a really fun treasure hunt with a treasure chest full of loot at the end.  We also had Pin the Patch on the Pirate.  Lily had 7 of her friends and a couple of their siblings attend, and they all had such a blast!

Here are some more party pics:

We had so much fun with our family and friends!  It was simply The Best Weekend Ever!!!!!

TK!  :) :) :)

P.S.  As it turned out, Johnny didn't tell me the whole story about how he met Chip.  Chip told me that he heard Johnny on the radio complaining about how his boss was making him dress up like a pirate for his son's birthday party.  Chip emailed Johnny pics of himself and said he'd bail him out.  Johnny took him up on it, and had just met Chip the morning he told me about him.  Also, Chip said Johnny was going to have him on his show Monday morning (this morning) to tell everyone how awesome he is.  I didn't listen to the show (it's on from 6am - 10am), but I'll try to see if they have it on their website later.  Anyway, I have the feeling that now Chip is going to be pretty hard to book, so how lucky were we?!?  :)

My Favorite Zoo

Our family had such a nice weekend!

Saturday we drove to an employee's wedding in Nebraska.  It was so sweet!  You could just feel the love from the couple, their family, and their friends.  It was so warm and fuzzy, and I love that!

Sunday, since we were nearby, we went to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha Nebraska.  It is my favorite zoo.  We try to make it there about once a year.  Here are some pics...

My pics aren't exactly stellar, but I love just carrying my tiny little camera around with me and grabbing it for a shot here and there.

Happy week to all of you!  TK!
